    I taught myself years ago (36 yrs driving), that it is just safer for everyone to just signal each time you make a maneuver, to this day, i even indicate if i`m driving at 2/3 in the morning, it only takes 1 forgotten indicater for someone to hit your arse, or a pedestrian to step out thinking your going straight on, just indicate, its safer for everyone.

    why is it that so many instructors seem to be ok with teaching with clutch down, into 2nd routine. where did they learn to be an instructor? obviously not from you! If so many instructors are allowed to be at that level then how can we expect the driving standard to improve??

    What doesn't help are the roundabouts with missing or faded markings; it's bad enough on multi-lane ones when you're not sure where you should be. Not having definite guides can lead to you inadvertently encroaching on other's space.

    Should be like in Japan: if you cannot prove that you have your own dedicated parking bay, you are not allowed to have a car! It is entitlement, plain and simple, it's funny how many motorists call cyclists entitled for wanting infrastructure or space but feel entitled to dump their car on the pavement (I've even seen cars parked behind pedestrian barriers where they'd need to drive along the pavement some significant distance) in bus stops, just wherever they please. Get out and walk, I don't care how far you have to go, even if you need to park far away and get a bus! You aren't entitled to a parking space on a public street, if you have a nice front garden, pave it over for your car if you want one! Why should you enjoy a nice private space while I have to walk around your car!

    One issue with these big multi lane roundabouts: Some of them are so called Spiral roundabouts whereby you enter a particular lane for your destination and if you stay in it, it takes you to your intended exit. No lane change nessessary. Yet other multi lane roundabouts are not spiral roundabouts and lane changes are needed to get to your exit. It's not always obvious which type of roundabout you are dealing with at the onset and I've been caught by surprise at unfamiliar roundabouts. Perhaps a new sign should be developed to indicate on the approach the type of roundabout. Spiral or regular.

  • @smilerbob
    @smilerbob 2 часа назад

    A couple of phrases spring to mind “Green doesn’t mean go” and “Have I been seen?” Also people need to remember to be aware of vehicles already on the roundabout and that drivers may not be signalling correctly or in the correct lane for the exit OK, this example was someone avoiding the queue but still assuming the above will avoid and conflict 👍

    • @Leo99929
      @Leo99929 34 минуты назад

      I totally agree, apart from the car took a different exit to the one they were queueing for, so it's not certain if they were avoiding a queue, or just realised they were in the wrong lane... Not that that ultimately matters.

  • @PedroConejo1939
    @PedroConejo1939 2 часа назад

    I thought this was handled well by the cammer. I'm always cautious when passing queuing traffic, especially if it's on my right. I try my best never to hinder someone who is trying to exit the roundabout, or move to a different lane - much as I hope others would not deliberately hinder me. Mostly, it just requires good observation, but sometimes, slowing or even stopping is required. One of the more difficult things I encounter regularly on roundabouts is having to drive through the queue - so people who are queuing across the route I need to take. Many drivers are happy to leave a gap, but sometimes you just have to slot through where you can, being super careful about people coming round who have a free flow. The good thing about roundabouts, not that I'm suggesting it should be an option, is that collisions when they do occur are normally at low-to-very low speeds. This is their big advantage over traffic lights.

    • @smilerbob
      @smilerbob 2 часа назад

      One thing about being cautious around queuing traffic is it gives yountine should someone wish to change lanes, roundabout or straight road. It also helps when moving away from lights to be cautious and staggered should the driver in the lane next to you suddenly decide to avoid the queue and change lanes without looking

    white car according to a driving instructor should go round the roundabout again as in the wrong lane to start with

  • @ibs5080
    @ibs5080 3 часа назад

    I've negotiated big multi lane roundabouts where it's perfectly correct to take the "3 O Clock" exit (or slight variations of) from either one of the two most right hand lanes. I've been in the left hand lane of the two most right hand lanes and indicating right on the approach as well as the initial part of the roundabout...and had a driver in the right most lane sound their horn, presumably worried that my right signal might mean I am changing lanes rather than simply an indication that I'm intending to turn right but remain in my existing lane. But if I didn't indicate, no one would know if I'm intending to use that lane to turn right or leave by the straight ahead exit. Except until i give a left signal one exit prior. Assuming that I'm the type of driver that would even do so, which others wouldn't know in advance.

    • @Leo99929
      @Leo99929 40 минут назад

      I'm not saying this like a fact, happy to discuss it as I'm really not sure what's best; In my opinion you should indicate when you are leaving your lane. For example, crossing a lane marker. Definitely indicate when exiting a round about. Definitely indicate to show you intend to not go straight on or first exit when going around a small round about, or one with one lane, or unclear lanes. In other words, indicate right when taking the 3 O clock exit on most round abouts. An exception to this would be multilane round abouts like you might find on a motorway, which might have traffic lights on the round about. If you indicate right on that and you aren't in the right hand lane, then I would take that as unclear if you intend to change lanes, or continue to the 3 o clock exit. If you don't indicate then you should be staying in your lane until you DO indicate. I see the problem lies with those people who don't indicate, or indicate after/whilst manoeuvring. But I don't see indicating right when intending to stay in your lane as helpful communication. I already treat others as if they might be in the wrong lane and stagger. Someone having their indicator on is just drawing my attention to them, away from the other potential hazards, when you're saying that indication means that you aren't going to do anything unexpected?! Doesn't make sense to me.

  • @pearceburns2787
    @pearceburns2787 3 часа назад

    The roundabout/lane debate is certainly a point to mention. It's certainly poor planning if you need to cut across 2 lanes to get to your exit on a roundabout, just as it would be poor planning to cut across 2 lanes to come off a motorway. The problem with roundabouts is being in the left-most lane on a Roundabout is also a decision on which exit you are taking, which this channel has pointed out is very dangerous to opt-out of, especially when two lanes can take that exit.

    Good learning point. I'll rewatch it again as I'm in quite a state right now. Mum had a bit of a medical episode here at the hotel in Birmingham yesterday. Spent all day at the hotel yesterday just resting. Heading back to Canterbury today and I've requested a late hotel check-out. They've given us till 3 pm rather than the usual 12 noon, no extra charge. Still debating whether to go to Blenheim Palace Flower show next weekend. Many of you know we love to attend many events, though it's been a bit of a challenge since my mum fell down the stairs and broke her wrist 9 weeks ago. Take care everyone...and yes I'll comment on this actual video in due course as well as the previous one which I viewed yesterday with great interest re Viewer Fails. Particularly liked the clip with the viewer finding they were in an unintended left turn lane and the way they corrected it.

    I feel like most accidents and near misses (or at least quite a lot of them, in my experience) come from people trying not to make a wrong turn, or in the case of roundabouts, make the right turn first try. I'll admit, I have, occasionally, been around roundabouts twice because sometimes mistakes happen and I'd rather go around again than potentially end up getting ran over. Even on large roundabouts with lights it only takes a few minutes, much less time than dealing with an accident, although I suppose people like the car driver in this clip don't consider than they too could get into an accident...

      I am similar with two exeptions… If the lane I am in can be two exits, I will signal right to show my intentions and avoid anyone waiting to emerge thinking I am taking the first exit Conversly, if I am exiting at the first exit I will signal left to again show intent and that allows those emerging to be prepared to emerge when I exit…because they shouldn’t emerge based upon a signal 😉

      @@smilerbob I think you're signalling right to try and combat people who don't signal left. Two wrongs don't make a right? Your indication suggests to people on your right that you have checked your mirrors and blind spot, decided it was clear, and intend to move into their lane. That could cause some panic braking or swerving. Pulling out into a round about in front of a person who hasn't indicated that they are leaving the round about is reckless.

    Horses don't tend to have special snow shoes, how ever you can purchase over shoes with grippers on. In the snow the frog area of the hoof tends to get packed with snow and regular hoof picking is required. If yer horse does lots of road use on tarmac the farrier will drill a hole in the shoes before fitting and fit a titanium stud which prevents sliding. 😊

    With the zombie pedestrian walking out (I'd give him an E-), I wonder whether he didn't notice the cammer's car as it was going so slowly? Slower moving objects (particularly if they are quieter, and the person has headphones on) are less perceptible in peripheral vision. I don't think the cammer could have driven very much faster at this point, but I do wonder whether a little blip of revs (assuming ICE car) approaching the corner would have made them more noticeable?

    In Victoria, Australia, we have a few very large intersections/junctions at traffic lights where you can fit 3. However, 2 is certainly a good rule. It's interesting to see how thin the stop lines were with both intersections/junctions in this video, and that there were no lines for the pedestrian crossing. I say to my students, if they can't fit their vehicle in the intersection/junction with their rear tyres past or just on the pedestrian crossing behind them, they will make it through safely. But, that didn't look possible in this video due to how far up you needed to move to be able to proceed through. In Victoria, many will sit with their front tyres on the pedestrian crossing waiting and get stuck when the traffic light goes amber and red. Most of our intersections/junctions where I'm from have a thick stop line, then a pedestrian crossing with lines. Great video, thank you, Ashley.

    With the first two clips, I agree with Ashley's point about use of the horn. The seconds clip showed that the horn made the driver pulling out react and move to the right of the lane and require a lot less drastic reaction from the cammer. If the cammer in the first clip had used their horn the van driver would have likely corrected their error and stopped. Too many drivers are shy to use their horn when it could be vital in making the other road user making the error to correct themselves, instead of having to take far more drastic measures to avoid a collision.

    Exactly on the point of the rental. Always beware rentals who aren't used to positioning to view without rear windows.

    Why not just add a traffic circle? That would force a slow down no matter what. And how did moving that road cost THAT MUCH?

    Whenever I watch these videos it always surprises me how bad Liverpool is for pavement parking. It seems a majority of cars park on the pavement at least a bit, and plenty are fully on it.

    I really dislike roundabout jumpers. There is a reason for using the circle in the correct direction. If you use it in reverse you are making less room for everyone else using it.

    very good reminder - I keep my foot in to the last second (your video on being allowed to join; i would be the twat out there slowing you down in the outside lane where it is going to one so you cant join anyway). but if they want in they get in, its annoying but not worth the agro.
